媽媽肚裡有兩個胎兒。一個問另一個說：“離開這裡後，你認為我們還會有生命嗎？”另一個回答說：“當然啦，為什麼不會呢？離開這裡後一定還會有什麼的，也許我們在這兒就是為了這之後的我們做預備。”。”
“一派胡言！”第一個說，“離開這裡後當然就不會再有生命了。這之後還會有什麼樣的生命呢？”
第二個說：“我不知道，但那裡的光一定比這裡更多。也許我們還會用腿走路，用嘴巴吃東西，也許我們還會有其他現在不能理解的感知。”
第一個回應說：“太荒謬了！走路是不可能的。用我們的嘴巴吃？那更不可思議！臍帶提供了我們所需的營養和一切。但臍帶太短了，邏輯上來說，離開了這裡就不可能存活。”
第二個堅持說：“好吧，我認為一定還有些什麼的，而且也許和這裡不一樣，也許我們根本不再需要這條臍帶。”
第一個回應說：“荒誕胡言！况且，即使還有生命，為什麼沒人從那裡回來呢？離開了這裡就是生命的終結，這之後，什麼也沒有，只有黑暗、寂靜和湮沒。這之後，我們不再存在。”
“好吧，我不知道，”第二個說，“但是我們肯定會見到媽媽，她會照顧我們的。”
第一個回應說：“媽媽？你真的相信有媽媽？這太可笑了。如果真有媽媽的話，那她現在在哪儿呢？”
第二個說：“她一直都在我們周圍，環抱著我們。我們是她的一部分，就在她裡面活著。沒有了她，我們的這個世界不會、也不可能存在。”
第一個說：“可是，我並没有看到她，所以只能邏輯地推斷：她不存在。”
對此，第二個回應說：“當你安靜下來，當你專注傾聽時，有時候你能感受到她的存在，也可以聽到她從上而來的親切聲音。”
In a mother’s womb were two babies. One asked the other: “Do you believe in life after delivery?” The other replied, “Why, of course. There has to be something after delivery. Maybe we are here to prepare ourselves for what we will be later.”
“Nonsense” said the first. “There is no life after delivery. What kind of life would that be?”
The second said, “I don’t know, but there will be more light than here. Maybe we will walk with our legs and eat from our mouths. Maybe we will have other senses that we can’t understand now.”
The first replied, “That is absurd. Walking is impossible. And eating with our mouths? Ridiculous! The umbilical cord supplies nutrition and everything we need. But the umbilical cord is so short. Lifeafter delivery is to be logically excluded.”
The second insisted, “Well I think there is something and maybe it’s different than it is here. Maybe we won’t need this physical cord anymore.”
The first replied, “Nonsense. And moreover if thereis life, then why has no one has ever come back from there? Delivery is the end of life, and in the after-delivery there is nothing but darkness and silence and oblivion. It takes us nowhere.”
“Well, I don’t know,” said the second, “but certainly we will meet Mother and she will take care of us.”
The first replied “Mother? You actually believe in Mother? That’s laughable. If Mother exists then where is She now?”
The second said, “She is all around us. We are surrounded by her. We are of Her. It is in Her that we live. Without Her this world would not and could not exist.”
Said the first: “Well I don’t see Her, so it is only logical that She doesn’t exist.”
To which the second replied, “Sometimes, when you’re in silence and you focus and you really listen, you can perceive Her presence, and you can hear Her loving voice, calling down from above.”
